The court has fixed July 15 as the date for submitting a further investigation report in the case of shooting dead Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam fixed this date on Sunday (June 28).
According to court sources, the date was fixed for submitting a further investigation report today. However, the investigating officer of the case and Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police, Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan, could not submit any report to the court. Therefore, the court has fixed a new date for submitting the report.
Earlier, on January 15, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of the Inqilab Manch, the plaintiff in the case, filed an objection to the charge sheet given by the DB in the same court. The court granted Jaber's objection and ordered a re-investigation of the case.
It is worth mentioning that on December 12, Shaheed Osman Hadi ended his election campaign by offering Friday prayers in Motijheel. Then, on his way to Suhrawardy Udyan, at 2:20 pm, when the autorickshaw carrying Hadi reached the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station, miscreants on a motorcycle shot him dead and fled. Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a serious condition. After undergoing surgery there, he was sent to Evercare.
Later, he was sent to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment. He died there on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Manch, filed a case with Paltan Police Station on December 14 on charges of attempting to kill Hadi by shooting him.
The accused were charged under multiple sections of the Penal Code for criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, causing grievous hurt by using a dangerous weapon, and aiding and abetting in a misdemeanor. After Hadi's death, the case was converted into a murder case.
The case statement states that Hadi ended his election campaign after offering Friday prayers in Motijheel on December 12. Then, on his way to Suhrawardy Udyan at 2:20 pm that day, the autorickshaw carrying Hadi reached the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station when the miscreants on a motorcycle shot him with the intention of killing him and fled.
Meanwhile, the detective police filed a chargesheet in the Hadi murder case on January 6. Former ward councilor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Faisal Karim Masud and 17 others were charged.
The accused in the chargesheet are - the main accused Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul alias Daud (37), his father Md. Humayun Kabir (70), mother Hasi Begum (60), wife Shaheda Parveen Samia (24), brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu (27), girlfriend Maria Akhter Lima (21), Md. Kabir (33), Md. Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjwal (34), Sibion Diu (32), Sanjay Chisim (23), Md. Aminul Islam alias Raju (37), who is accused of helping him escape to India, and Md. Faisal (25), Md. Alamgir Hossain alias Alamgir Sheikh (26), former ward councilor Md. Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Philip Snal (32), Mukti Mahmud (51) and Jasmine Akhter (42), who were arrested in connection with the recovery of the weapons used in the murder.
In the chargesheet, the investigation officer, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed, said that after analyzing the political identities of the accused and the political statements made by Hadi at different times, it was initially understood that Hadi was shot dead due to political revenge.
In addition, the chargesheet has highlighted that the accused Faisal Karim Masud and his associates infiltrated Hadi's election campaign in a pre-planned manner to 'obstruct' the 13th parliamentary elections and 'create fear' among the voters.
