Police have arrested Mazharul Anwar Jewel (40) on the charge of killing his mother Marufa Begum (60) and burying her on the floor of her house in Kishoreganj, Nilphamari. The matter was confirmed on Thursday (June 25) evening by the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station Lutfor Rahman. Earlier, he was arrested in a raid in Ashulia area of Dhaka on Wednesday.
The arrested Mazharul Anwar Jewel is the eldest son of the deceased Ashraf Uddin of Maidan Para area of Barovita Union.
According to the relatives of the deceased and police sources, Marufa Begum's younger son Lavin Mia works in Dhaka. He lived in the house with his elder son Jewel Mia. Lavin Mia returned home from Dhaka on June 2 and searched for his mother but could not find her anywhere. Later, on the morning of June 4, Lavin Mia's wife, while making her bed in her house, found blood and cracks on the floor and informed him. Later, when Lavin Mia came to the police station and informed the police about the matter, the police went to the spot and found blood under the mattress and cracks on the floor of the house. That night, with the help of the fire service, the body of Marufa Begum was recovered by digging up the floor of the house.
The younger son of the deceased alleged that his elder brother Jewel had killed his mother and buried her on the floor of the house. Later, when Lavin Mia filed a case with the police station, the police conducted a raid and arrested the elder son of the deceased, Jewel, last night.
In this regard, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, Lutfor Rahman, conducted a raid and arrested Jewel. A case has been filed against him on the charge of killing and burying his mother. He has been sent to court. His statement will be taken there.
